August Writing and September Goals
Aug. 31st, 2021 08:46 amI’m slowly but surely preparing The Larks Still Bravely Singing for publication. I’ve copyedited the document, finished the historical note, formatted the paperback, and ordered the proof copy (in which I will find 500 errors I mysteriously missed while copyediting on the computer…), so I remain on track for a mid-October release date. The only big remaining hurdle is the blurb.
In writing news, as neither my Sleeping Beauty woes nor my World War I obsession have let up, I decided the path of wisdom is to set aside Sleeping Beauty and dash off a World War I novella. It’s inspired by the bit in The Roses of No Man’s Land about the workshop where they made masks for men whose wounds resulted in severe facial disfigurement, because nothing says “romance hero” like a man who wears a mask to cover his terrible facial scarring!
...Actually that sounds like it should be a Phantom of the Opera AU. Sorry folks, this is definitely not that.
Ten years after a shell left him with a disfigured face, Kip Ryder lives a quiet life with his watercolors, his books, and a few select friends and family. He has made peace with his certainty that his face puts love forever out of his reach… until he reconnects with an old schoolmate, Alec.
When Alec was a lonely, isolated schoolboy, Kip was one of the few people who was kind to him, so when they meet again years later, it doesn’t take much to reignite Alec’s schoolboy crush. But how can he convince Kip that his feelings are real?

Date: 2021-08-31 01:57 pm (UTC)Was thinking of compiling a WWI collection of f/f, possibly under Kalikoi if that turns out to be okay. I need to write at least one more story for the correct length.
