5. What's a fandom that you wish had a bigger following?

I’ve often wished that Old Film Fandom was a thing. There are a few that have a pretty steady Yuletide presence (Some Like It Hot and Singin’ in the Rain, mainly), but there are so many old movies with so much potential which just drift along, without fic, without fanart, without gifsets, unless some quirk of fate lifts them briefly out of obscurity.

For instance, there are twenty fics on AO3 for Calamity Jane, and I’m convinced that it’s because of that one viral Tumblr post a while back about the incredible f/f potential of that movie. Which is truly through the roof! But it’s a complete crapshoot whether any older movie ever gets that kind of attention.

Ha. Yeah, I feel like the fandom potential of movies in general is kind of random based on whether a tumblr user with the requisite number of followers happens to make/reblog an appealing enough gifs et to make people actually look it up. Which I am not exempt from, I have watched movies because I saw them doing the tumblr rounds!

+1. I like whenever it shows up at Yuletide, but it's a total crapshoot whether it will and, if so, which films. I'm pretty sure I caused fic to be written for Ernst Lubitsch's I Don't Want to Be a Man (1918) and I feel I've really accomplished something in my life. I still can't believe there's nothing for Only Angels Have Wings (1939).
