Met with my new advisor today. He seems to be of the "You want to study basket weaving? I'm chill with that" persuasion, which is good, because my last advisor was very "You want to study Russian? Are you insane?" Which did give me incentive to forge through all my difficulties with the Cyrillic alphabet, because damned if he was going to be right.

Actually, funny story re: the advisors. Before I switched advisors my roommate and I had the same one, and I neglected to tell her I was switching; so earlier this week she mentioned to him about a prank she and I discussed, where I would email him about my plans to major in something like underwater basket weaving or art history which would make his eyes pop out of his head.

I'd just emailed him about the whole switcheroo (although I was switching to plain old history, which is respectable), so I think he found that a bit distressing.

In other news, I've finally seen the first episode of Doctor Who (New Who, that is). It was decent; it didn't make me feel like I needed to mainline the next five episodes or else die, which IMO is what a good pilot should do, but it also didn't put me off the show. And the walking talking mannequins were creepy and not a good thing to watch while working late at night alone in the basement of a building inhabited by the anthropology department's collection of skulls.

So once I get through my Chip 'n' Dale DVDs I will get more Doctor Who.

There is no motivation like the urge to prove someone wrong.

Otherwise: I say this in trepidation, but I find I don't care much for Doctor Who. The recurring promises that it will all be fine because he is the Doctor grates.

Chip n Dale! Rescue Rangers! Ah, the memories of childhood.

I've read a lot of things about Doctor Who that make me think it's going to make me angry on a regular basis, which is part of the reason why I've taken so long to get around to it. :/ The same thing happened in Torchwood, everything was going to be just fine because Jack was there, and it drove me crazy then too.

yay for doctor who! i promise is does get more addicting... i think one of the most winning things about the first season is the chemistry between rose and the doctor (er, first or every single season rose is in there...yeah...), and that really builds over the course of the season. also the cracktasticness of the show is amazing, and you've probably gotten some of that by now, but more is on its way.

oh man, and meeting captian jack. every second with him on doctor who is made of win.

but i'll be very interested to hear your thoughts on the show when you find time to watch more of it!

I'm looking forward to meeting Captain Jack. It will be like running into an old friend.
