Twin Peaks

I've just seen Psych's homage episode to Twin Peaks. It was a very, very successful homage, judging by the fact that I now wish to watch Twin Peaks. (More than I did before, I mean. I've been curious about it, because it's often compared to Veronica Mars, which is sublime.)

Has anyone seen Twin Peaks? Is this a wish worth following up on?

I would never characterize Twin Peaks as sublime, no. But it's sui generis, in my opinion. You should watch it.

I watched it when it first came out, and it was fascinating and left me hungering for more. But I've never felt the urge to go back to it and re-watch, and all that I can remember of it now is a handful of words and mental images that don't make sense or quite fit together...

TV series as visit to fairyland...?

This is the impression I've gotten of it from what I've heard about it. Strange and impossible things happen! They are never quite explained!

Echoing bunn. I saw it when it first came out, and the first few episodes were amazingly, creepily and wonderfully surreal without giving you the feeling that it was all random. There seemed to be a hidden pattern in it, and the secondary characters were wonderful. (And I like Kyle MacLachlan.)

I ended up disillusioned as the writers started juggling more and more details, and it seemed unlikely to end in as marvelous a way as I thought it ought to. Although some details worked toward a solution to the mystery, many *were* just random, thrown in there, and that was disappointing, as those were the things I had liked best.

But, since then, there have been lots of series that disappointed in the same way, and I've come to the conclusion that you can enjoy the early parts of the series and just not worry about the dissatisfying ending. (And, of course, it's all subjective, anyway)

Well, I'll give it a try. I'm pretty good at abandoning series midway through if they displease me - in fact, at the moment I've quit Downton Abbey mid-episode, though I may be dragged back to it - so if it gets too dissatisfying, I can always bail.
