So I mentioned yesterday that I had a new m/m project with a sulky Soviet spy, so I thought I would expand upon that now that it’s July. The title is Honeytrap and the premise is that, following Khrushchev’s 1959 visit to the United States and subsequent burst of enthusiasm for Soviet-American cooperation (quickly quenched in May 1960 following the U-2 spy plane incident), an American and a Soviet agent have been assigned to work together on… something that both countries consider important enough to put aside their enmity at least a little bit…

(This is obviously mostly an excuse to throw these two guys together in a situation where they can get shot, whipped, forced to snuggle for warmth after getting snowed in, There’s Only One Motel Room Left and It Has Only One Bed, etc., but at the same time it needs to… well, exist. Possibilities include:

1. THE VAGUELY PLAUSIBLE: Some third party has plans to beat both the USA and the USSR into space and both countries are so appalled by this threat to national prestige that they come together in rare agreement on the idea that It Must Be Stopped.

2. SIXTIES SPY SHOW RIDICULOUS: An evil organization wishes to achieve WORLD DOMINATION (pause for evil laughter) and the USA and USSR have to team up together to defeat it!

3. RANDOM MAGIC. Aliens! Evil leprechauns! Nazi necromancers! Both countries are so unnerved by the whole magic thing that they’re like “Yeah, sure, I guess maybe we could work together a little bit if it means defeating THE FREAKING UNDEAD.”)

But Gennady, the Soviet spy, has a secret secondary mission: honeytrap his American partner, Dnaiel, so Daniel can be blackmailed into spying for the Soviets. But as Gennady becomes closer to Daniel, he becomes less inclined to fulfill this mission that would ruin Daniel’s life… even as Daniel finds himself feeling powerfully attracted this inconsistently flirtatious, sharp-witted Soviet agent.

So my July writing goals are:

- revise “Goblin Woods” (it will probably get a final polish before I publish it in October)

- (it would also be nice to finalize a title and have the cover ready; I’m not quite sold on “Goblin Woods” as the final title. Maybe I should reread the Rosetti poem and see if a quote jumps out)

- start work on Honeytrap. I think this is going to be a long one; I’m toying with the idea of posting snippets on tumblr as I go with a link to my Ko-Fi page (oh, BTW, I started a Ko-Fi page: here) and we’ll see how that does for me.
