Road trip!!!
Jul. 25th, 2008 05:18 pmNext Monday I’m going on a road trip. I'm tremendously excited, but also mildly worried: my high school friend Emma and I are visiting my college friend Dorothea. Emma and Dorothea have met for a sum total of ten seconds at a fencing tournament.
Given that Emma and Dorothea hardly know each other, it’s entirely possible that the vacation will devolve into us sitting uncomfortably in ice cream parlors, chewing slowly through melting mounds of mint chocolate chip and orange sherbet as we stare at each other at each other in awkward silent agony.
I really would rather not have that happen, but my conversation-fu is limited. They’ve both read Tortall, so a George-Jon-Neal-Numair-Taybur death match could probably provide conversation fodder for days. Or a Cleon-slagging tournament.
Or maybe I should take along a book of origami patterns? Or cards. Or something. Probably it will work out; they have a lot of things in common beyond fencing and Tortall. Crown Duel. The Sabriel books. Me!
...maybe I’ll hunt down the origami book.

The team is on the verge of interpersonal disaster ALL THE TIME. I just can't love epee enough to sacrifice my soul to that sort of atmosphere.
Sorry, you probably didn't want an essay. I just find him terribly exasperating, and once I start it's hard to stop.

Date: 2008-07-27 02:11 am (UTC)It's just that I was planning to start fencing when I started college, and I'm a little bitter because it didn't work out.
Do you fence?
