Eric Carle Museum

Back from Northampton! I had a lovely trip, even though Emily Dickinson's house was CLOSED, woe (perhaps she had something against Tuesdays?). I'll simply have to go back. Possibly next summer. Road trip up the East Coast?
The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art was open and it was AMAZING. If I went to Hampshire (the college by the museum) I would walk on broken glass to work there. It's a museum about ART! And BOOKS! And CHILDREN'S LITERATURE!
And they have an amazing bookstore: more children's books (picture books but also chapter books) than Barnes & Noble, in half the space, with room left over for stuffed animals. (Barnes & Noble seems to be moving toward a "tons of copies of a few popular books" business plan. I do not approve.)
Photos!

I'm haunted by these swings: every college in the country except my own has one. If we did I might never do anything but swing, so perhaps it's just as well...

Okay, so it's really more of a car garden. I SO wanted to eat at the cafe attached to the garden, but Caitlin vetoed it. :( Another reason why I have to go on a road trip east!

Date: 2010-12-03 08:18 pm (UTC)I like the large, seasonal paintings in the main hallway. I tried to see about having a birthday party there for one of my kids when they were little, but it was SUPER EXPENSIVE, so I didn't.
The car garden is neat--is that in Northampton?

Date: 2010-12-03 08:25 pm (UTC)Yeah, the car garden is in Northampton! It's just off the edge of Smith's campus, behind the Ford building. There was also a Volkswagen van garden, but that one didn't have any greenery left.
