Sometimes, stories have happy endings.

The saga of the summer job has ended: 've just been offered an internship (with scholarship! And stipend!) at a history museum on the coast of Lake Michigan.

Happy happy happy happy...

Here, have a snow dragon.

That snow dragon is amazing! Just amazing! Is that near you? (Did you by any chance *make* it?)

Congratulations on the internship, too. A history museum --a history museum! So cool.

The snow dragon is on the campus green, just a block away.

Sadly, I had no hand in making it. However, after I took this photo I ran into a girl who told me, shyly proud (she must have just watched me try three different angles to get a good shot) that she had a hand in its creation.

You must have totally made her day. That dragon should go on the cover of the alumni magazine. I showed my younger son, and now he wants to make one if/when we get some decent snow (I'm not sure he realizes just how hard those arches probably are to make....I wonder if they used armature or just did it freehand.

Hello! I always love meeting lurkers.

The internship is actually in Wisconsin, & the ice dragon is from the campus green just a block from my door.

That's amazing. I went to Michigan Tech and they have this ice sculpture contest every year. I was wondering if it was around there. Have fun in Wisc. I'm hopefully moving there some day. Lots of great people in those parts. :-) Congrats and good luck!

It is indeed! (We do our best to keep it happy. You never know what a snow dragon might do if it doesn't get praised enough...)

Yay! Congrats!

What kind of history?

It's a maritime museum, about the history of the fishing village and lighthouse that were built there in the late nineteenth, early twentieth century.

I don't know much about either, but I <3 lighthouses.

Um, AWESOME.

Are you going to walk around singing songs from Pete's Dragon the whole time?

Ooh! I did an internship at a science museum when I was an undergraduate. It was so much fun and so worth my time. And that snow dragon is awesome.

Oh! Is this the place where you wore the funny rig and did science demonstrations?

I want a snow dragon for a pet. Maybe a smaller one, though.

Snow dragons are amazing!

Also amazing: all of our snow is gone, except sad huddled snowplow piles that haven't quite melted. It feels like May outside!
