As I'm sure you know, I like it when stories leave room for both/multiple possibilities. (I mean obviously people are always free to react the way they want, but I dislike it when, as in Ann Leckie's Translation State, I feel highly guided about what's right to think.)
... Granted, sometimes people are writing out of moral indignation and outrage, and the point of the story is absolutely NOT to leave things open, it's to cry to the universe about how appalling something is. Fiction is not the mode in which I like to absorb those messages, but I totally understand why people do choose fiction to express those things.
