Yes, you wrote to me about it! It was your letter that inspired me to suggest visiting the museum to [personal profile] asakiyume. And we had a fantastic time!

I loved his everyday paintings. (I believe the technical art term is "genre paintings," which is so funny to me because in literature "genre" means, like, murder mystery or SF - the opposite of everyday!) They're just bursting full of story and wonderful little details. Just the thing to look at for ages on a quiet Saturday evening in 1934. Maybe you open the magazine eventually, and maybe not...

Yes, the Tony Sarg exhibit was still on! Neither [personal profile] asakiyume or I could remember his name later that evening, which is especially funny/sad because he put it on all his books and everything, like a forerunner to Richard Scarry. His puppets especially fascinated me. And his shadow puppet animation - so reminiscent of Lotte Reiniger's cut paper animation around the same time period.
