More and more I realize how many decisions that are discussed as if they are purely artistic, a direct reflection of the artist's own views, are profoundly shaped by outside pressure --Yes: the artist's name is on the paintings so one assumes they reflect the artist's will, what the artist wants to draw... but the magazine's name is also on the paintings, and right at the top, and it had the ultimate say.
In addition to the art, I really loved the video of Ruby Bridges. She's always seemed from everything I've ever heard like an amazing person, and getting to see her speak for herself only strengthened that impression. Full of light.
