I'm just so impressed by Binchy's skill in giving Nan what is basically a soap opera villainess arc - but in such a way that when Nan goes off to London at the end, you just want her to succeed in her dress-making course. Perhaps that will ultimately be more suited to her interests than her college course was in the first place. Find love and happiness, Nan!
And YES, also Benny's arc from this massive crush on Jack - she admires him so much that she can barely let herself imagine that he could be interested in her! - to realizing that she wouldn't really be happy with him, in the long run, and that's sad, but not as sad as it would be to spend the rest of her life working constantly to keep him.
