I'm laughing imagining the author's oh shiiiiiit feeling.
My mother had that slog eperience reading an ethnographic study by some anthropologist after having read a different ethnographic study by the same anthropologist and loved it. The ethnographer just really enjoyed the first culture and clearly didn't like the second. But as my mom pointed out, the second group were a displaced people living away from their traditional lands I think maybe even in a refugee camp, so like... not at their best? But I guess the ethnographer just wasn't in a mood to make excuses.
