I had an elderly lady using the alternative meaning of 'friend' in conversation with me today and I thought of you! She mentioned she wanted to visit a friend on the other side of the county but didn't want to risk covid on the trains, and it sounded like the usual type of friend, and then as the conversation developed it turned out that her friend was an elderly gentleman living on his own, a forester, and that he was building a cabin on his woodland for them to take holidays in together, and they'd been friends for thirty years :-)
