One of the things I really enjoy about your blog is that you often end up reviewing stuff that I probably read when I was a kid and basically devoured any books I could get my hands on, which included a lot of mid-century children's literature (I suspect because used copies could be had by the bushel and were ostensibly kid-friendly enough to stock the bookshelves in various classrooms in my school, from whence much of my material came). I'd completely forgotten about this book but now that you describe it I find myself remembering bits and pieces...I'm half-tempted to do a reread.
