on the basis of those books, I’m not convinced the American public fully grasped that China is a real place and not a fairy tale kingdom. --yeah, the not-quite-understanding-the-humanity-of-others thing. With Africans it's in full bullhorn mode; with Chinese it's "they're fairy-tale beings, how exotic!!"
