I don't think I've ever seen "Amy set her cap for Laurie FROM THE BEGINNING, that minx" in another adaptation. Sometimes there's foreshadowing or hints that Amy has had a crush, but even then, the basic vibe is that this is a surprise development for both of them in Europe! NOT HERE THOUGH. Here Amy was clearly Chasing Her Man to Europe with every intent of bagging him.
To be fair, Rossano Brazzi is one of their few choices that really works! You watch it and you're like, "Okay, he looks about the same age as the Laurie they cast, and he's got a better nose, and he's way more respectful of Jo's boundaries (Laurie keeps getting ALL up in her personal space as she fends him off), and also he sings like an angel... okay, fine, you win this one filmmakers."
