Not sure those can fully be separated. The scene is in Alexander's POV, more or less, although the narration is only loosely bound to him. And it's truly a complete primal Oedipal scene. There little Alexander is, cuddling with his mother, and his dad comes in wanting to have sex with her, and Alexander (who was hiding under the covers) bursts forth all "I'M GOING TO KILL YOU" at his dad.
I think homefront story is kind of its own separate genre. War-adjacent but not exactly a war story.
