This kind of makes me want to read Boys of Alabama. Does it put you through the wringer like this book? (TBH I have read VERY FEW books that put me through the wringer like this one, so probably not, even if it's a stressful experience in itself.)
And YES definitely I spent a lot of the book going "I can see this going MANY bad places and... we're not going there? Right? RIGHT?" I really think it would have stressed me out MUCH less if I had read it as a child, because my point of view would have been much closer to Pete's.
