I think I was expecting something a bit more Boxcar Children from Dicey's Song, and then the book was, like, dealing with psychological consequences of bereavement, and Dicey's grandmother was WAY more hardcore than Grandpa Alden, and I was just not there for it. I would probably appreciate it more now.
