Ewen is kind of hard on Lachlan, isn't he? He does take Lachlan very much for granted, in a way that Lochiel does not take Ewen's devotion for granted. Even if Ewen ever fucked up as bad as Lachlan did at the end, it's hard to imagine Lochiel would be quite so harsh with him. (Now that I think about it, I'm sorry we never got to see Ewen apologize to Lochiel for giving away his hiding place. Ewen would fall to his knees and Lochiel would probably put a tender hand on his brow.)
I think the Lachlan->Ewen and Hugh->Dundee comparison is apt, although definitely Dundee is kinder to Hugh than Ewen is to Lachlan. My impression is that Dundee likes Hugh (in a vague sort of way), whereas Ewen finds Lachlan kind of annoying even before he starts trying to kill Keith.
