Oh nooo. But I can also see how Howard got there, because IIRC it was much more true after World War I - the women's suffrage amendment passed very soon after the war ended, for instance. And it was also true to a certain extent after the Civil War, with the establishment of the first women's college (Vassar) in 1865, and nursing continuing to be seen as a respectable profession for women even after the war was over, and so forth.
So it would make sense to assume the pattern would hold for World War II, although in the event it actually didn't.
