It was origfic but came out of a very tropey fandom context for sure - I've been meaning to read the pro-published version to see if it holds the political plot together a little better (I don't mind incredibly flimsy plot and worldbuilding in free romance, but I would be even more thrilled if it managed the delicious romance AND a more robust setting/frame plot, which is sounds like the Tor version does...not quite pull off), but it will be interesting to compare when I finally get it from the library!
