I'm very interested in hearing your thoughts on Secondhand Time! I liked that Alexievich's interviewees/subjects came from all different points of the political spectrum - from people actually involved in the Soviet government to "kitchen dissidents" to people who couldn't care less who was in charge and what philosophy they were running the country under as long as they still had a roof over their head and food on the table - and, as I mentioned in my post on it, I was really struck by the people who could tell all these horrifying stories about family members - or they themselves - being sent to prison camps, but still counted themselves as loyal communists and found it difficult to cope with/adjust to the fall of the Soviet Union.
