A Certain Slant of Light

Fictionalized history is so often annoying in precisely this way -- the borrowing of snippets of the real world only to misuse them. It's irritating enough in fanfic, but fic writers do have the excuse that they're doing it if not for love then at least for fun and not for money; if someone's getting paid to do the work it seems like cheating to go about it sloppily. As well, to apply the name of a perfectly decent real person to an unpleasant character strikes me as unethical somehow even if the dead can't feel the harm.
