Henry Miller is a brilliant and obnoxious weirdo and Black Spring is a very odd book that sometimes feels like it belongs more on Geocities than it does on the page. Lots of wild mid-paragraph swings between beauty and nonsense. He is not particularly good at writing women. Sometimes this is a massive city-sized understatement and sometimes it's just a regular understatement.
