Steampunk lamp
Jul. 26th, 2009 01:24 amFirst, a guide to English language bookstores throughout Europe. Apparently most of the major European cities have at least one misplaced English-language bookstore. Who knew? The site has beautiful bookstore pictures, and is also an awfully good place to plan imaginary tours of Europe - well, you want to know which bookstores to hit, right?
Second: I've been working a story involving a crumbling dirigible abandoned in midair, and therefore was looking around for inspiring steampunk pictures. Astonishingly, the web is not replete with inspiring dirigibles; but I did find these fantastic steampunk salt shakers and ash trays and lamps. Here is a sampling, and here rather a lot more work by the same artist if you want more. (The artist, much to my distress, doesn't seem to have his own page.)

(Does the image show up? Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't.)
And, in the theme of strange and atmospheric things: here's a music video filmed in Pablo Neruda's house. (Pablo Neruda was a Chilean poet, apparently a very good one, although I haven't read his work; but his house is amazing, everything one could hope for in a poet's house, idiosyncratic and beautiful.)
