Have been away this weekend! Am behind on comments! Did many things, including:
-attended the opera Giulio Cesare, in the firm expectation that Giulio Cesare would doubtless get stabbed somewhere in there, only to discover that IN FACT this opera is set during his time in Egypt in an alternate universe where he married Cleopatra and they reigned over Egypt together forever, after being acclaimed by a chorus that included Cleopatra's dead brother Tolomeo who just got stabbed to death by Pompey's son.
It actually sounds delightful when I describe it that way. Unfortunately, I think I'm just never going to really like the old, serious, "we are going to sing this sentence sixteen times!" operas, as opposed to comic operettas, which have a sprightly plot and tend to have like, maybe one repetition at most.
I did, however, enjoy the fact that they decided to costume the Romans like soldiers in Napoleon Bonaparte's army, because why not I guess?
-purchased three tarts at the farmers market. I really only intended to buy one, or maybe two, but they were just so beautiful, and one was lemon and another almond frangipane and the third heart-shaped with a chocolate shortbread crust and chocolate filling, and which one of those would you turn down?
-ate smoked salmon eggs benedict for lunch, A++ would nom again. Much superior to regular eggs benedict. Not that I would turn a plain eggs benedict down if it was the only option on the table.
-acquired Kristin Lavransdattar at the Book Corner, my favorite darling bookstore. Unfortunately ALL my holds came in on the library at Friday (not literally true: there are yet more holds hanging over my head, threatening to come in at any time) so it may be some time before I can start reading it. But it's on my shelf now!

Date: 2019-02-19 09:35 pm (UTC)This does sound absolutely DELIGHTFUL! I wish it was a novel (or possibly a sci-fi movie because why not add lasers and aliens to the situation) because I would eat it up with a spoon. But alas, I am also not really inclined to opera, and so will just have to enjoy the scenario's potential without the actual experience.
