Characters: Natasha Romanov, Dottie Underwood
Summary: When young Natasha flubs a mission, her teacher Miss Underwood complains about how soft the Red Room has gotten since the good old days.

evelyn_b, if you recall we once talked about a story about Natasha’s first mission. The full story never got written, but this part did, and who doesn’t want to hear Miss Underwood complain (metaphorically speaking) about how in her day they walked to school uphill both ways through a blinding Siberian blizzard and the Red Room girls today don’t know how good they have it.

Natasha’s suggestion that Miss Underwood bit her fingers off herself was a big hit with the girls. “But why would she do that?” Galya objected – Galya would, she couldn’t come up with good stories herself so she always poked holes in everyone else’s – “To show she was tough,” said Yelena, who always backed Natasha up. “She probably spit her own fingers right into Allen Dulles’s face.”
The whole dorm groaned in delighted horror.

This is COMPLETELY delightful. I love it.

I don't want to write A Boarding School Story about Natasha Romanov's Life in the Red Room: Three Parts Midnight Feasts to One Part Horror... except I kind of do totally want to write that. Except I don't think it has an audience. Maybe if I filed off the serial numbers...
