I guess I can imagine a person who just doesn't want to have *people* dictating to them... it's not a thing that most of us mind so intensely, but I mean, some people are super photosensitive and wear dark glasses--and I guess this was her approach to handling her needs. Same with McCandless.
I think there could be ways to make life tolerable for people like Mona and McCandless that wouldn't require the choices they made (and consequences), but nothing works all the time for all people...
