Polly goes temporarily blind, and then Joel gets the measles too and people send over good food; perhaps the jelly came in there? The part that stuck with me was the bit where they get A KNOB OF BUTTER and this is like the best thing that has ever happened to them, even though all the butter has to go to the sick children.
