It's like the writers didn't realize that Loki could betray people other than Thor - or, indeed, that he could still be a trickster without betraying anyone at all! There are other ways to prove one's trickster bona fides. In fact, given that he starts the movie shape-shifted to look like Odin, I'd say his trickster bona fides come pre-proven.
...I did quite enjoy the maudlin play that Loki is having enacted of his own tragically heroic death scene near the beginning, although as with many other things in the movie there was a certain lack of follow-through. Surely Thor is going to make fun of that for approximately forever.
