It's even worse than it sounds. Not only have the two most recently released American Girl series lacked pictures, but they've reprinted the old books in new editions which ALSO don't have pictures, and also smush the original six books together in just two volumes, without as far as I can tell any clear demarcation between the original books.
In short, it is a travesty. The company has sold its soul on the altar of cost-cutting.
