To be fair this is only Sada's backstory, delivered mainly in one dramatic infodump. The meat of the book is still about the narrator; her embroilment in Sada's affairs as it becomes clear that Sada's uncle wants to marry off this inconvenient mixed-race niece as fast as possible is one of the main subplots.
