What I’ve Just Finished Reading

Lauren Oliver’s The Spindlers, which is a children’s fantasy book about spider-like creatures called spindlers who rise up from the depths to steal souls, but despite this promising premise is pretty solidly mediocre. Oh well.

What I’m Reading Now

I’ve started Ron Chernow’s Alexander Hamilton! Have not gotten very far yet. Watch this space for developments.

What I Plan to Read Next

I’m not sure! It will depend which hold the library brings me first. The final Lady Trent book, Within the Sanctuary of Wings, is marked as In Processing, so I have my fingers crossed for it.

Watch this space for developments.

I have a feeling people die in the end. ;-p

(As 18th C wrangler, Hamilton is my bete noir, if you feel like committing any vandalism on the book, feel free. Please mutter something about obscure children/parents/grandchildren/greatgrandchildren/nephews/nieces/neighbours/people Hamilton may have met as you do it. (18th C used to be SO QUIET. I miss those days! Especially since my knowledge of the American revolution is limited, but I can hunt up obscure 18th C LOndon friends of the Fieldings like a boss.) Not that I should really advocate wanton damage to books, but if you felt like any minor throwing across rooms etc., be sure to let me know!)

*coughs*

I have a weird feeling I knew that about The Spindlers being disappointing, but I don't know how. I have read a lot of YA/children's lit for work, but I usually retain some memory. Perhaps it's just that it's true of an awful lot of cool-sounding children's lit!

May whatever the mystery book is next be better. (And forgive me my glaring at Mr Chernow, who obv. had no idea what he was going to eventually unleash on my quiet wrangling corner of the AO3.)

A lot of them do, but we share character tags across all the fandoms where they might appear, especially in RPF (and then users just filter by fandom; it saves archive space and ridiculous tag trees forming). (We occasionally don't but usually only if a fictional version is particularly offensive or is a zombie or something.) Also, people write about all their rl families - people who aren't in the musical, or even sometimes in the history book. ALL THE FAMILIES, ALL THE GENERATIONS, I can't tell you. It's in 19th C as well. Heh.

It gives me something to complain about, anyway! None of my other fandoms ever do anything. And it's better than 20th C's random Nazis and hell-fire ships (like Adolf Hitler/Joseph Stalin/Donald Trump). But it was a bit of a shock, especially since so many of them need a lot of research. The Hamilton wranglers are all v nice and helpful and usually at least have an idea as to who the tagger actually meant. :-)

I hope Alexander Hamilton is good! And that the library brings you something good! This is not much of a comment, I'm afraid.

I enjoyed Hamilton (the musical) for a few months before current events killed my enthusiasm, but I don't know if I'd have the patience to read an entire book about the guy. I look forward to reading your thoughts!

Oh no! I'm not sure what frappucino happy hour is but it sounds tiring. I hope you're making lots of money, at least!

Go Hamilton! I've been meaning to read that book ever since the musical first came out, but the page-count keeps making me put it off. I hope you enjoy it!
