I went for a long walk around the neighborhood to see what I could see; findings included a Russian deli, a New Age store and a Christian store standing almost cheek by jowl, and this

I was walking through a sea of parking lots surrounding strip malls when I stumbled upon this little dollop of nature: a weeping willow drooping over a retaining pond between the parking lot and the highway, bathed in sunlight. Unexpectedly lovely.
On the same walk, I found this restaurant sign, in the most

No one writes like this anymore. I think the owner - or perhaps one of the waitresses - must be a time traveler.
Later on, Becky and I went for another long walk - Becky calls them "rambles," which I like - through the grand park out by her house. We found a hitherto-unsuspected natural history museum, a lakeshore path, and this

Out in the daylight for some reason! I thought this was quite a lucky shot.
A few days later, Becky and I convened for an

Becky had brought back a tiny raspberry jam from her trip to Scotland, so I made scones and we ate the jam all up.
In other food news, my family dropped by for dinner at our favorite Greek restaurant in Indianapolis, and of course my mother brought me a load of food for the apartment, including two enormous gorgeous peaches. Actually I was a bit worried about the peaches - no fruit, I felt, gets that large naturally - but they turned out to be delicious and perfectly ripened and glorious.

Or actually I fried it, as we don't have a grill. Brushed it in honey, sprinkled it with cinnamon, fried it in butter and served it with vanilla ice cream. It was divine.

Date: 2016-09-30 01:23 pm (UTC)The tea was awesome! I actually had a bit of trouble with the scones - I realized too late that we didn't have any milk, so I ended up using yogurt thinned out with water - but they still tasted pretty good, so I'm calling that a success.
