EEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!
Mar. 18th, 2009 08:48 pmI'm going to England! I'm going to England! I'm going to study abroad at the University of York next fall! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!
I may be going to Europe a couple of weeks early, to see Barcelona and Aix (one of my friends will be studying there) and possibly Arles, which is also in the south of France, where Van Gogh painted and lived with Gauguin and went insane.
Arles, peculiarly, has no Van Gogh museum. But it does apparently have a museum of Roman antiquities, although I'm not sure how helpful that would be given I don't read French.
So perhaps we will go to the Basque country instead of Arles. Or Paris; we could go to Paris. Although in the Basque country I would be able to speak to people, and also they have delicious fish dishes. Europe! Why is there so much awesome in Europe?

Date: 2009-03-19 06:35 am (UTC)I remember liking Arles when I went there (years and years ago) but if you haven't been to Paris then I don't know how you could go past it. The Pantheon is probably my favourite thing in all of France - so fascinating.
Either way, I'm sure you'll have a just marvellous time.

Date: 2009-03-20 09:02 am (UTC)Betty's (tea shop) is worth a visit to say you've been. My favourite cafe is Piglet's, though York's not short on tea shops, coffee shops and cafes. Blue Bicycle is meant to be a very good restaurant, but it's incredibly expensive so I've not been myself. It's worth working your way round all the touristy things while you're here - the minster, the museums, jorvik, st william's college, the treasurer's house, the art gallery... If you're living on campus you count a a York resident, and you can get a York Card from the library that lets you into a lot of place free or cheap.
