Orphan Black, season 1

osprey_archerI finished watching season one of Orphan Black, and wow! What a ride! I'm putting this behind the cut because it's basically impossible to talk about this show without spoilers.
- WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME THIS SHOW HAD A DERANGED BRAINWASHED EASTERN EUROPEAN ASSASSIN, it's like genderswapped fanon child-like Bucky Barnes if fanon child-like Bucky Barnes were usually fucking terrifying as well as strangely adorable. THE SCENE WHERE SHE'S EATING JELLO AND SHE'S SO CUTE AND THEN SHE KICKS SARAH AND SARAH STICKS A KNIFE IN HELENA'S LEG. THIS IS WHAT I WANT IN LIFE.
- Also Helena's handler who strokes her cheek and talks to her gently and then knocks the cup out of her hands and tosses her in a cage when she behaves badly? Yes. I am here for this. SO SORRY FOR YOUR SAD LIFE HELENA, BUT IT SPEAKS TO THE BAD PARTS OF MY SOUL.
- I refuse to believe that Helena is dead. I want the other clones to take her in and make her their scary murder puppy and try to teach her how to human.
- This show is so good to my paranoia-loving little heart. TRUST NO ONE. NO REALLY, NO ONE. I am so concerned that Delphine is going to turn out to be evil tooooo, because I really like her and also because if I were Cosima I would also look at Delphine's soft concerned eyes and crinkly golden hair and helplessly give up all hope of distrusting her as she deserves to be distrusted.
- Cosima! I actually have less Cosima thoughts than I have about the other clones, probably because she spends less time in MORTAL PERIL or free-falling in a paranoid tailspin, but I would like to register my fondness for Cosima.
- Speaking of TRUST NO ONE, I guessed that Ainslie probably wasn't really Alison's monitor - and became absolutely sure of it when Alison failed to ask Dr. Leakie who her monitor was, oh Alison, you are a stone cold bitch but you are new at this espionage thing and it shows.
But I didn't guess it would be Donnie! I thought the whole hot glue gun torture scene proved he wasn't, and it was probably one of the neighbor ladies. But it is soooo much worse if it's Donnie, very nefarious, I approve.
- When Alison finds out that her actual monitor is Donnie and she stood back and watched her best friend Ainslie choke to death for no reason at all, I bet she's going to have a meltdown. A bigger meltdown than she's already had. Alison is clearly approaching total nervous breakdown at terminal velocity.
- ALISON IS SO SCARY AND I KIND OF LOVE IT. Sarah is the one with the actual criminal record, but I am 99% sure that if someone she hated got her scarf caught in a garbage disposal, Sarah would end up saving her enemy (probably much against her better judgment). Alison just stands there. Sarah hasn't even really admitted to herself that Felix or Mrs. S. might be her monitors; Alison dives right into investigating all the likely suspects.
Alison: the scariest clone except for Helena.
- If Felix turns out to be monitoring Sarah I will cry. I am also still resisting the idea that Mrs. S. is a monitor, although I suspect my resistance will be futile and we will get the Awful Truth sometime in season 2.
- LIKE SERIOUSLY, MRS. S. IS THE BEST. SHE IS SO HARDCORE BUT ALSO SO GENTLE AND LOVING AND SHE HAS A SHOTGUN JUST IN CASE THE BAD GUYS COME FOR THEM and she really does love Sarah even if she approves of 99% of Sarah's life choices, which given that most of Sarah's life choices are bad, I can't really hold that against Mrs. S.
- Speaking of bad life choices, I kind of love that the last time we see Sarah's ex-boyfriend Vic, he's joined a 12-step program. His whole life has fallen apart and I'm happy for him that he's actually trying to use that to grow and become better as a person.
- In conclusion: KIRAAAAAAAAA! (More proof that Sarah has not learned to be paranoid enough yet: she should have secured her daughter before telling the Neolutionists to fuck off.)

But YES, this show is the best! Felix is the best, Allison is the best, everyone is the best! I've only watched S1 & S2, and I really need to rewatch before I delve into S3 & S4 because I've forgotten the finer points of the conspiracies.
