Today at book repair, I finally got my paws on Kelly DiPucchio's Crafty Chloe, which is the first of a series - although the series seems to have died a tragic early death at only two books, alas. Possibly because the books are surprisingly low on crafting details? I think that they would be much-improved by having step-by-step descriptions of Chloe's crafting process, kind of like Rumer Godden's The Kitchen Madonna. Instead we just get a montage. Montages always skim right over the best parts! I want to see the nitty-gritty should-I-use-sequins-or-rhinestones process, dammit!
Actually I think it's a very cute book. It just doesn't fulfill its premise as well as it could.
I also read Kate Egan's Kate and Nate Are Running Late!, otherwise known as an anxiety nightmare in picture book form. Nate has to wake up his mother Kate who is sleeping late, because if she doesn't wake up soon they're all going to be very late! Everyone runs around the house attempting to get ready! They're almost ready, and they open the door, and then the cats escape!
And even once the cats have been bundled back inside, Nate manages to fall into a puddle. Like you do. And then it turns out to be - Saturday! ALL THAT SUFFERING FOR NOTHING.
The cutest part of the book is actually the endpapers, which show Kate & Nate (and Nate's older sister Maddie) hanging out on days when they're slightly less harried.
