Eggplant!

Am still sick. Slightly less sick, though, which makes me happy.

Other things that make me happy:

Dreams and Nightmares, a Harry Potter/Doctor Who crossover fic made of cracky goodness.

“Hogwarts!” shouted the Doctor, making them all jump. He grinned hugely and paced about, Remus watching him warily. “We're in Hogwarts! And if you're James Potter, then that means… You're the Marauders! The Marauders, marauding about, isn't that brilliant! Donna, meet Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs, otherwise known as Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, Sirius Black and James Potter. Brilliant students, terrors of the school, and very fond of wandering around the grounds at night - hang on, are we in a secret passage? Is this an actual, proper secret passage? I love a good old secret passage!”

Beautiful.

Also, grapefruit. I love grapefruit because it's sour and juicy and delicious, and also because the word is exactly the same in Russian as it is in English (so if anybody ever gets magically air-lifted to Moscow, that's something you can eat).

I had an interesting anecdote planned about how the name grapefruit totally makes sense if you see grapefruit growing, because it grows in clusters like grapes, but a google search for images tells me that I imagined that. Therefore, I will instead tell you that eggplant is actually a perfectly explicable name, because the eggplant has a long and glorious history as an albino vegetable, and in this state it looks like a dinosaur egg.

And finally, this webcomic. The whole comic is good, but this particular strip is just great. NONE SHALL PASS THE BARRICADE WHILE I AM AT WATCH.

Shoebox! Shoebox is so beautiful! And it has adorable illustrations! *huggles Shoebox*

(Your link doesn't work, so just in case anyone stumbles across this who is not familiar with the love and joy that is Shoebox: The Shoebox Project (http://www.lomara.org/sbp/). Read it. Love it.)

Ah, so much fic, so little time. I will read, honest I will. The snippet is great. I'm also intrigued by Shoebox.

That white eggplant/aubergine is actually quite unsettling, but educational.

You haven't read Shoebox! O.O It takes a big time commitment to rectify that, though, so I wouldn't blame you for not diving right in.

Why is the white eggplant thing unsettling? Are you imagining white eggplants hatching, and spewing forth tiny evil aubergines (aubgergines just sound so much more evil than eggplants) throughout the land?

Like you said, they look like giant eggs. Full of dragons. Or pearls. Just not very like food.

Is that very provincial of me?

It might be provincial, but I don't eat eggplants either (because even if you get past the dragon-egg aspect they are groooooss) so I have no room to talk.

I'm a Scot, we deep fry confectionery. And pizza. And haggis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haggis). Eating vegetables fights against cultural conditioning.

I will go and read fic and stop talking nonsense now.

I'm from Indiana. We deep fry Twinkies and Snickers bars, although generally we save those monstrosities for the State Fair.

...I have to say, I am not quite sure I believe haggis is food. It's certainly edible, but I'm not sure I could call it food.
