I never really "got" Jesus Christ Superstar until I listened to the muppet version.
I don't have a problem with all-music musicals. But I think the movie production at least undermines itself with its location and costuming choices. I imagine it works a little better as a stage production -- the staginess of the costuming compared with the "realistic" location is a constant low-level distraction for me.
