Picture Book Tuesday: Pouch

I ended up doing book repair today, because I was throwing a last-minute tea party yesterday (I made brownies. They were hot out of the oven and they were delicious), and in any case we don't have many books waiting in the to-be-repaired pile.

The one that caught my eye today was David Ezra Stein's Pouch!, or as I jokingly described it to my mother, "attachment theory for toddlers."

A young kangaroo climbs out of its mother's pouch, hops about exploring till it meets another critter (a bee, a rabbit, whatever), at which point it shrieks "POUCH!" and dives back into its mother's pouch... until it feels secure again, and climbs out for another hop around. Eventually it meets another young kangaroo, they both scream POUCH, and then they're so tickled by the fact that they scared each other that they become buddies.

So I suppose it's really more "secure base" theory for toddlers. In any case, it was cute.

In other news, I rediscovered my adorable Christmas socks only days before Christmas. This means that I didn't get much chance to wear them, so I have decided that clearly Christmas socks continue to be appropriate throughout the twelve days of Christmas.

That sounds really cute--the book I mean. No doubt the socks, too. I have on cute socks too! But they are not Christmas themed: they have strawberries on them.

Cute socks are one of the small joys of life. I should buy more.
