Agents of SHIELD thoughts
Mar. 18th, 2015 09:28 amI am just not sure about some of the acting decisions that the guy playing Skye's father is making. He seems unhinged in a way that is maybe supposed to be interesting? But mostly seems to repel sympathy? Which is unfortunate, because actually he does have a legitimate grievance: SHIELD kidnapped his child. He just expresses it in the worst way possible. Skye will never love you if you keep trying to kill all her friends, dude!
I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THE EVEN-MORE-SECRET SHIELD. Of course there are multiple layers of secrecy hear, of course Coulson is Fury's front man while he secretly builds up something new in the background - assuming Fury is involved? I think Mack implied that, but it all happened rather quickly.
And this is assuming that secret!nu!SHIELD is the real SHIELD. Maybe Fury seeded multiple new SHIELDs across the planet to see which one would prevail. Maybe a SHIELD battle royale is in the making. Possibly Fury saw Hunger Games too many times? ONLY THE STRONGEST WILL SURVIVE.
Coulson is going to be completely fucking crushed when he realizes that Fury lied to him. Again. And this time, Fury's not going to be able to smooth it over with the flattering reflection that he did it because Coulson was an Avenger. Just like Captain America, Coulson! So it's okay that I resurrected you against your express wishes as you begged me to let you die.
Because what could Fury possibly say this time? "Your loyalty made you seem like the perfect patsy to start a fake new SHIELD to draw attention away from the real new SHIELD? And you took your work so seriously, it was adorable."
Alternatively, Mack and Bobbi may have been tragically duped, and the other SHIELD that they think they're serving is actually a well-disguised branch of Hydra.

Date: 2015-03-18 02:03 pm (UTC)FWIW, I don't think he has a real gripe, because Hydra killed everyone in Skye's mother's village, so the SHIELD agents actually saved her from Hydra. Then again, Hyde probably would have preferred that Hydra raise her, so...

Date: 2015-03-18 10:27 pm (UTC)I am also one of the few people who hasn't liked Coulson-as-director, so maybe this plotline is leading away from that? And I am excited about it.

Date: 2015-03-19 02:18 am (UTC)Plus if it's Fury and Coulson finds out then there will be FIREWORKS, and I am all about the fireworks. But it would be an awfully low thing for Fury to do, so probably they won't go for it.
I really have no idea where this is leading, but hitherto this season has felt somewhat aimless to me, so the fact that it suddenly seems to be going somewhere is exciting to me.

Date: 2015-03-19 02:36 am (UTC)IDK, there's this thing in the MCU fandom to want to see Fury as a bad guy, but he's never done anything except the right thing. He's not even as morally grey as people think he is, and it drives me NUTS.

Date: 2015-03-25 11:39 pm (UTC)I think its all about whatever he did to himself made him "crazy". Which, yeah, I have no sympathy for him and frankly, he just annoys me. I originally liked the slasher vibes we got before meeting him/when we first saw him through Raina but now I prefer Ward's type of psychosis to Skye's dad's.
I'm curious about your thoughts on the "real" Shield after last night's episode.

Though after this week's ep, I guess they didn't consider themselves hiding so much as gathering? Like, I'm all for how they started, saving the ship, etc, but I am interested in how they got from saving the command ship to starting their own version of SHIELD and knowing about Coulson being brought back with alien DNA and such.
