I am opening today at work. It's my first time opening on my own so I couldn't sleep very well, so finally at 5:30 I got up and made scones.

Aside from the occasional early morning, work is going pretty well. (And actually, the morning shifts are nice, because then I have the rest of the day free.) I can make most of the drinks now (although I'm still working on how to pour the foam for the cappuccino so it mixes with the espresso instead of sitting on top like a frothy island), and I can usually make the cash register do my bidding, although I'm still a little perplexed as to how to ring up cakes.

Otherwise, I've been trucking away on the robot story, which is slowly, very slowly growing. I keep cycling back to revise things, which means the draft will be reasonably clean when there is a draft, but it also makes it slow going. It's nicer when it just comes forth like a stream, but alas, writing can't always be like that.

Another barrista milestone! ;)

I am working on two stories right now; one is requiring that back and forth that will ultimatey result in a fairly clean manuscript; the other is flying out of my fingers faster than my brain can think.

Stories are like children--all different, all requiring different upbringings.
:)

I'm also still learning how to make the drinks-that-aren't-frappuccinos. So complicated! So many steps! And people don't order them very much in this weather, so there's not much chance to practice. But I'll get it eventually.

I am glad you're moving along on the robot story--and yeah, some stories come easier than others.

And I got your postcard! I feel like you need a sailor moon transformation sequence for your new barista skills.

I broke 20,000 words today! I think it's going to be a little shy of 30,000 when it's done. Unfortunately the bulk of those words are the climax, and while I know basically what happens, I haven't worked out quite how...

I like the transformation sequence idea! I do change into a uniform when I go to work. Maybe I should pick a theme song to play when I do it!
