A question:
Dec. 3rd, 2008 04:48 pmTo any British readers: what are the chain stores in Britain? Like, places that sell everything (or nearly) and are considered a little downscale, like Walmart in the U.S.
My mind is telling me Woolworth's, but I think there's a fifty percent chance I made that one up.

Otherwise Tesco is taking over the country, bit by bit.

There's several department store chains that are region specific, like Boyes (Yorkshire) and Trago Mills (Cornwall). Most Supermarkets focus on food, and have other departments in bigger stores, but it depends on the size of the town as to whether somewhere like Tescos would mean 'food only' or 'everything imaginable so cheap you feel faintly guilty'.
