I'm very distressed by the news of Pushing Daisies cancellation. Really, ABC? I realize that you sold your soul to Mammon long ago, but this is still outrageous.

Beyond all else - all the character development that won't happen and storylines that won't wrap up and the fact that my weekly infusion of joy is being destroyed by a corporate behemoth - I am saddened by the fact that there will never be an episode featuring a dinosaur museum. Because Ned revivifying fossils would be SO COOL.

I have finished Dailan Kifki! *trigger celebratory downpour of papel picado* [livejournal.com profile] enemyfrigate, did you in fact read Harry Potter in Spanish? Because I need a new Spanish book now, but I'm a little worried Harry Potter will be too hard.

It amuses me somewhat that the first Harry Potter book in Spanish is "Harry Potter y la piedra filosofal." Evidently someone thought the Spaniards could handle the whole philosophers' stone concept, it's just us dumb Americans who need to have our hands held.

At least Bryan Fuller will attempt to finish storylines in comic-book or even feature movie format.

And completed episodes will all air.

So that's something. Not much, but something.

Yes. And it did at least get nine more episodes than Wonderfalls and eight more than Firefly, which perhaps means that the networks are taking baby steps in the direction of quality.

I'm working on one! Which means it will probably see the light of day in, like, February.

Beta/banner? *looks hopeful*

I lost the damn book in the sea of damn books that is my existance before getting through the first chapter. I am confident that the book is still in the house, but that is all I know of its whereabouts. This is what happens when one decides to 1) put books away, 2)realize that everything is in boxes/piles/the closet, and 3) has very not clever ideas about organizing that include 'sorting' books on the bed. Where the La Piedra Filisofal was.

As for how those few pages went, I was pretty pleased. I don't want to nail down a word for word translation, but I want to do more than get the gist, and that seemed to be a good approach.

Overall, I think it's totally doable. I chose HP because I know the story very well, and the writing is relatively simple. I had a dictionary at my side and another dictionary of Spanish idioms, and found it really helpful to learn/relearn words in context.

This whole "putting books away" thing always seems to end in tragedy, especially when it involves sorting. On the other hand its hard to find books when they just lie around in piles, so I guess there's really no escape.

I'm glad to hear the little bit you did went well, though. Must hurry to the library...

Yay! There will be dinosaurs, and a taxidermied jackrabbit with an alligator's tale, and Ned in Deadly Peril. It will be exciting!
