Hmmm, well forgive me if I mention things we've already talked about. Have you ever read Sweetwater, by Lawrence Yep? I liked that--and it's about people who live half in the water, so I guess it had a lasting effect on me, too. And it's about different cultures meeting, and about sibling love.
And--and here I'm sure I'm repeating myself, but--have you ever read The Rope Trick, by Lloyd Alexander? I'd be very interested in your thoughts on that. That's not from my childhood, though; it's like his second-to-last book.
Oh, and how about Drujienna's Harp? There were elements of that that I disliked, but many more that I really liked, and it's a strange and unusual story. Much, much later I read some of the author's other books, and there was a duology, Taash and the Jesters and Kashka, which I really liked, that were more traditional-style fantasy.
And how about The Empty Schoolhouse? That wasn't one of my favorite-favorites, but it really lingered with me. It's a bit dated, though.
And The Search for Delicious, by Natalie Babbit.
Oh, and in the genre of the-earth-will-renew-itself fantasy, I liked Legend of Lost Earth (I forget by who) as a kid, and Outside, by Andre Norton
