From
carmarthen, a writing meme. I think you're supposed to pick questions off the list to ask me.
1. Which is your favorite of the fics you've written for X fandom?
2. Favorite piece overall?
3. Which was the hardest to write, in terms of plot?
4. Which has the most “you” in it, however you'd define that?
5. What is an image/set of images that you're particularly proud of?
6. Idea that you always wanted to write but could never make work?
7. Least favorite plot point/chapter/moment?
8. Favorite plot point/chapter/moment?
9. Favorite character to write?
10. Favorite line or lines of dialogue that you’ve written
11. If I’m showing off just one of your pieces to someone, which one should it be?
12. What WIPs do you have going now? Are you excited about them?
13. Are there any things that might have happened in any of your stories, but you changed them at the last minute? (So-and-so dies, they don’t actually kiss, main character has long extended ballet-based dream sequence, etc.)
14. Would you want to write canon for any of your fandoms (like being hired by a showrunner to do an episode)? Which one?
15. Does font matter to you when you’re writing a draft?
16. Three favorite comments ever received on fanfic.
17. Any mean comments? How’d you deal with it? Who laid the smackdown?
18. If you could go back and revise one of your older stories, which would it be?
19. Do you make up scenes at work/on the bus/at the gym? Who are the characters that pop up the most? Do you write them down?
20. Go nuts, and talk about writing. Or write me a little ficlet-whatsit using a character/image/line I shall now specify.

Date: 2013-03-17 11:44 pm (UTC)Oh, or Wingdings! My inability to understand what I had written previously might make it easier for me to keep writing.

Date: 2013-03-18 02:20 am (UTC)Noooo they are all my children, how can I pick just one! Uh...I think for sheer happiness, my favorite is Vixen (http://archiveofourown.org/works/553100), the story where Cottia transforms into a fox, because fox!Cottia, so perfect! For angst value, though, I really like Wings (http://archiveofourown.org/works/631687), because it takes a totally cracky premise - wingfic! - and tells, I think, a serious story with it.
9. Favorite character to write?
This changes all the time. I looooove writing Cottia and Esca in Eagle - nothing against Marcus's character, but his voice has always been harder for me.
10. Favorite line or lines of dialogue that you’ve written .
I thought this would be easy, but looking at my favorite lines, most of them only make sense if you know the canon/have read the story. Let's see...from Five Times Jess & Jules Kissed in Public (http://archiveofourown.org/works/143440), my Bend It Like Beckham fic, the line There is not a world-wide Punjabi network spying on your virtue was a real favorite.
16. Three favorite comments ever received on fanfic.
1. I got a piece of fanart for Vixen (http://osprey-archer.livejournal.com/245238.html)! (The link goes to the picture, rather than the AO3 story. I should figure out how to embed the picture in the AO3 story...) I guess that is not exactly a comment, but it was incredibly awesome.
2. A lot of people commented on Mr. Yunioshi's Photographs (http://archiveofourown.org/works/38014) that after really the fic, they could watch Breakfast at Tiffany's again without having it spoiled by what a racist caricature Mr. Yunioshi was in the movie.

Date: 2013-03-18 02:53 am (UTC)And what's the one called where Cottia, Marcus, and Esca first all come together, where each couple gets to have time together, and they conceive that maybe they could make it work, the three of them? That one's really nice too.

Date: 2013-03-18 02:33 am (UTC)This is ever changing. I've been moving away from Eagle fandom (though I've got one more story left I want to do) but I looooved writing Cottia, because she's so fierce and angry and fun.
Jaye Tyler from Wonderfalls was always awesome to write for the same reason. I never meshed with any of the Pushing Daisies characters quite like that, though, which made me sad.
I think this means that I should try writing Veronica Mars fic sometime, because "fierce, angry, and fun" are pretty much her middle name. All at the same time. With a side order of deception! With all this movie talk, I'm probably due for a VM rewatch, y/y?

Date: 2013-03-18 02:02 am (UTC)This describes my original novels ideas more than most of my fannish ones! Let's see. Recently I've been trying to write a few Lizzie Bennet Diaries ideas, and I've been having real trouble capturing the characters' voices: the vlog format is just so different from a regular story, you know?
Oh, and I had an idea for a Baby-Sitters' Club mini-epic about the love of Claudia and Ashley Wyeth, but it exceeded my plotting ability at the time so I never finished. Still kind of sad about that.
17. Any mean comments? How’d you deal with it? Who laid the smackdown?
I don't think I've gotten any really mean comments. I've had a few comments nit-picking details - on my very first fic, someone told me that British people usually use electric kettles, not stovetop kettles - and usually I say some version of "Gosh, thanks, I'll keep that in mind next time."
I'm not sure what I would do if someone got really mean. If it was a stranger I'd probably just tell them to GTFO, but a friend, I don't know.

Date: 2013-03-18 01:57 am (UTC)I am always excited about my WIPs! Sometimes in a "Whyyyyyyy am I writing this it may destroy me" kind of way.
Right now, I'm working on a Les Miz story, and also my own book about a farmgirl who finds a group of hobo robots on her farm during the Great Depression.
14. Would you want to write canon for any of your fandoms (like being hired by a showrunner to do an episode)? Which one?
Oh, man. I'm not sure; I think part of the fun of fanfic is that you can explore weird possibilities without the responsibility of making them canon.
But if there were, say, a film adaptation of some of my favorite books - like Tamora Pierce's Protector of the Small series, or maybe one of Rosemary Sutcliff's novels (I'm not sure which ones would adapt well, aside from Eot9...hmm...something to write a post about!) I would love being involved in that.

Date: 2013-03-18 01:51 am (UTC)Well, that would depend what they like, wouldn't it? But I think my fic with the most universal appeal is Mr. Yunioshi's Photographs (http://archiveofourown.org/works/38014), which is an exploration of a minor character from Breakfast at Tiffany's. In the movie, he's a horrid racist caricature - which makes me so sad, because I love the movie otherwise - so this fic is an attempt to counteract his portrayal.
Plus, it makes sense even for people who have never seen the movie, so it would work for almost anyone.

Date: 2013-03-18 02:43 am (UTC)Sometimes it feels like most of my original novel ideas are like this...
There's one in particular that I have tried to write twice, which is so bloody complicated I'm struggling to think how to describe it: an earthquake kills off the government of the island city of Neriad (the silly rulers built their palace out of brick, never mind they lived on a volcanic island).
The story basically follows a number of different players jockeying to rule the city, and there are so many of them and it's so bloody complicated. I need to go through with a machete and clear out subplots.

Date: 2013-03-18 12:58 pm (UTC)Probably my Wonderfalls story Homing Pigeon (http://osprey-archer.livejournal.com/33003.html), because a) I don't think I stage-managed the characters very well - there are a couple of scenes with tons of characters, and they get confusing; and b) because that's the story with the angry lesbian feminist.
Unfortunately the story pretty much depends on her being all of those things, so it would be a real pain to revise it.
19. Do you make up scenes at work/on the bus/at the gym? Who are the characters that pop up the most? Do you write them down?
EVERYWHERE. As for who pops up the most, it depends what I'm writing: right now it's all Grantaire & Enjolras all the time. It's not always convenient to write it all down right them, but I do try.
