Color meme

poeticknowledge has been doing a little post necromancy lately, and she resurrected this meme:

Comment that you want to do this meme, and I'll give you a color that I think represents you, and then you list ten things you like in that color or ten things it reminds you of!

“Give me a color!” quoth I, all unsuspecting.

“Purple!” she replied.

My friends, it is difficult to think of ten purple-related things.



1. Sybil and Gwen. Because Sybil has a number of purple dresses, and she gives Gwen a purple dress as the beginning of her professional wardrobe.

2. Violets. You know that Valentine’s poem that starts “Roses are red, violets are blue”? That has always driven me crazy because violets are not blue, they are VIOLET, it’s right there in the name, good God almighty how could you miss that??

3. Eggplants. I’m not an eggplant fan, but they are so lusciously purple that I like looking at them.

4. Amethysts. You remember how last year I was tutoring remedial reading students? I gave one of my students an Emily Dickinson poem with the word “amethyst” in it. What was I thinking?

I also gave her a copy of Ella Enchanted when she graduated from remedial reading, and I’m sure when her reading skills catch up with the book she’ll forgive me for any lingering amethyst trauma.

5. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic! You guys, I have been watching this, and it is mega cute. Apparently the fandom is cray-cray, but that’s okay, I get everything I want out of the show (friendship! and magic! and horsies! horsies with wings!) and feel no need for fic.

Anyway, Twilight Sparkle the nerdy bookish unicorn is purple. I kind of want a figurine

6. Alanna’s eyes.

7. Chelsea. This is utterly meaningless to you, of course, but Chelsea was my best friend in elementary school, and her favorite color was purple. She had a poster of Cicely Mary Barker’s flower fairies which I coveted with all the coveting of my young heart. We had, in fact, kind of a fairy obsession - one time some foolish parents left their tiny child in our care and we convinced her there were fairies in the garden. And the treehouse. And the weird pathway between Chelsea’s fence and the neighbors.

“Fire fairies!” said I, carried away by enthusiasm. “They’re coming to attack the house!”

Chelsea (with a protective hand on the petrified child’s shoulder): “NO THEY’RE NOT.”

8. Lavender. As in the lavender fields of Provence. They always look beautiful in pictures, but I suspect that if I actually visited I would keel over in a dead faint at the overwhelming stench of lavender.

9. I’ve always thought Lavender Brown got kind of a raw deal in the Harry Potter books. It sucks being the sidekick’s placeholder girlfriend while he gets his act together to ask out the girl he actually likes.

10. I was going to say butterfly, but let’s face it, every color reminds me of butterflies, and also I’m pretty sure that butterflies are only purple in photo manips. Google tells me that there are genuinely purple-throated hummingbirds, though: Costa’s hummingbird! Because small flying creatures are a thing for me. Butterfly, dragonfly, hummingbird, fairy...

At The Hobbit I saw a trailer for a movie called Epic which is about tiny flying leaf people. It is like computer animated Ferngully! And the protagonist is voiced by AMANDA SEYFRIED. I am so there, you guys!

I also love fairies and butterflies and hummingbirds! <3 Amethysts are also one of my favorite gem stones. <3 And purple is my favorite color. :) Who is Alanna? Purple eyes are extremely rare, but gorgeous!

Alanna is the heroine of Tamora Pierce's fantasy quartet, the Song of the Lioness. She has purple eyes and red hair and disguises herself as a boy to become a knight and also has a magical cat who is secretly a constellation come to earth.

It occurs to me that SotL would make a pretty great anime.
