a) You friended me first, I think, and I friended you back because I was an LJ newbie desperate for friends, and you seemed cool.

b) Torchwood, of course!

c) I love discussing Torchwood with you because you always have insightful things to say and you've inspired half my stories.

d) I remember the post you wrote about your grandfather a few weeks back. I didn't comment at the time because I couldn't think of anything to say, but he sounded like a wonderful guy.

e) The Sentinel? Really? I realize that Torchwood isn't exactly high quality either, but at least it has good fic.

f) I'm fond of your Owen/Diane userpic. It's just so bright red and eye-catching.

e) What can I say? I have a hardcore lifelong weakness for science fiction and superhero types. My first semester at university, I didn't have a roommate so I spent most of my time with the SciFi channel on in the background. The Sentinel may not have been high class television, but it was on at a convenient time and there were Friday marathons (and I'd already seen all of Hercules and Xena. I think I've mentioned before that I've also fallen victim to even less impressive fandoms. Dark Knight may have had the Nightcrawler, but it was cheese personified.

No roommate the first semester? How did you pull that off?

Not that there's anything wrong with my roommate, but I'm kind of envious.

My roommate was from Ohio and new a girl (also from Ohio) who lived upstairs...the girl upstairs got incredibly homesick in the first week, and my roommate moved in with her. It was really cool, especially given the way I've always kept kind of unpredictable hours, but it really wasn't the best way to make friends when you're already alone at school. Luckily, some incredibly awesome people lived down the hall--I actually ended up living with one of them my last year.

a) We were having this great discussion about Isobelle Carmody books, and anyone with such interesting things to say was worth friending.

b) I associate you with birds, probably because of your Escher usepic--white doves.

c) I like that when you leave long, thoughtful comments.

d) I remember that you always have helpful things to say during Taybur posts, especially Taybur/Aly posts.

e) Why did you decide to become an engineer?

Birds? Wow, I've never even thought of that before. :)

Why did I decide to become an engineer? Good question. Throughout school I was the kid who asked 'Why?' to every question. I go lost in books about dinosaurs, took advanced mathematics classes in which I was the only girl, fell in love with digital circuits when I stuided physics and learnt that what I really love to do is not just find out why but, more importantly, find out how things work. I want to invent and create stuff that hasn't been thought of before and if I can't do that I just want to be challenged every day. I think engineering offers all of that for me.
